Toyota to Add 400 Jobs at Princeton, Indiana Plant

Part of localization strategy to build vehicles where they are sold

Toyota Indiana has announced that it will invest $600 million in its Princeton, Indiana plant to keep up with growing demand for the Highlander SUV, including adding 400 new jobs. It’s all part of what Toyota is calling its localization strategy, a move that is set to invest an additional $10 billion in the U.S. over the next five years.

DCH Toyota of Oxnard has more details on the project (and the 2017 Highlander) for you here.

Staying ahead of the competition

The investment in the Princeton, Indiana plant will be used for retooling, new equipment and advanced technologies designed to keep the plant competitive. The plant produced a record 400,000 vehicles last year, the most in its 20-year history. These advancements should help assure that the trend continues.

2017 Highlander exceeds expectations

The latest Highlander offers a new V6 engine and an impressive list of features. The available 3.5-liter V6 direct-injection engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic for quick acceleration. The Highlander’s many safety features include the Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology®. The SUV's Bird’s Eye View Camera* features Perimeter Scan for live 360-degree views of your surroundings, making it easier to see objects around you and park in tight spaces.

Recognized for safety and value

The Highlander received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA last year. It was also named a Best Buy Award Finalist by Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, as well as one of Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com 16 Best Family Cars of 2016.

“The Highlander has been a great vehicle for our plant and we are excited to deliver even more of them to our loyal customers,” said Millie Marshall, president of Toyota Indiana. “This is a true testament to our team members and their dedication to producing quality vehicles.”

The project, scheduled to begin in the fall of 2019, should add 40,000 Highlanders every year.
