2024 Lexus GX

by Client

Overview

For many years, the Lexus GX has been a go-to choice for off-road enthusiasts who want a more elevated experience. Some drivers consider the GX to be a nicer version of its mass-market cousin, the Toyota 4Runner, and the models indeed share many off-road features and characteristics. However, the GX stands out in the luxury off-road segment where, unlike its competition, the GX doesn’t forego capability in the name of performance. It balances both, without making sacrifices.

Who's It For?

Lexus listened to the GX fanbase and understood the assignment. The 2024 GX boasts a more rugged, angular exterior and more off-road capability than ever. It’s bigger, faster, and has more towing capacity than the previous generation. Seating has expanded to up to 7, meaning families will find the GX as practical as it is fun. At its core, though, the GX was built for serious off-road enthusiasts who don’t want to choose between a reliable, luxe daily driver and an out-of-the-box off-roading rig.

What's New for 2024?

The Lexus GX gets an overhaul for the 2024 model year, with an entirely redesigned interior, exterior, and mechanics. Drivers will appreciate the more rugged approach Lexus has taken with this new GX, speaking directly to the off-road community with features like full-time 4-wheel drive, a capable but efficient powertrain, and even a trail-ready Overtrail trim. Later this year, the brand will also release a hybrid version of this popular mid-size SUV, for those who want to save precious fuel on every outing.

Real World Performance

Performance isn’t in short supply for the new Lexus GX. Equipped with a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine and 10-speed Direct Shift transmission, the GX produces impressive power, whether you’re driving on the highway or crawling up an obstacle. With 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, the new GX gains 48 horsepower over the previous generation, while improving towing to 8,000 pounds. The lockable Torsen® limited-slip center differential gives GX drivers the power to optimize off-road grip and responds to on-road changes to improve highway manners.

As one of the remaining true body-on-frame midsized SUVs, the GX offers rugged off-road prowess hinted at by the wide, athletic stance and flared fenders. Off-road enthusiasts will want to opt for the Overtrail trims, which boast 18-inch wheels, 33-inch tires, an aluminum skid plate, and an electronic locking rear differential. Advanced off-roading systems like Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control (DAC), and 3D Multi-Terrain Monitor systems can make even the newest off-roader look like a professional. Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) provides drivers with excellent wheel articulation on the trail and a buttery smooth ride on the street.
