Drivers in search of the next big thing. The EQS represents Mercedes-Benz’s first all-electric luxury SUV, riding on the same platform as the sedan that also shares its namesake. The end result is a vehicle that stirs both the body and soul, from its brilliantly-designed interior with incredible attention to the luxurious details to its efficient yet incredibly potent electric performance. The EQS SUV also one-ups its sedan counterpart with far more headroom, knee room, and shoulder room than the latter, not to mention the availability of 3rd-row seating. The EQS lets you set the mood with 64-color ambient lighting, which also includes a color scheme that’s unique to the electric series.
Drive and Handling
Power and efficiency come naturally to the 2023 EQS. The EQS 450+ model features a rear-wheel drive layout propelled by a single electric motor. The end result is 355 horsepower with 419 pound-feet of torque at the ready. The EQS 580 4MATIC adds a second motor for the front wheels, not only transforming the electric SUV into one with all-wheel drive capability but also giving it a healthy 536 horsepower and a substantial 633 pound-feet of torque. Charging via 240V wall box gives you a complete charge from 10 percent in 11.25 hours. Hooking up to a DC fast charger cuts that time down to 31 minutes.
As expected, the 2023 EQS has plenty of ride and handling tricks up its proverbial sleeve. The AIRMATIC Air Suspension with Adaptive Damping System ensures crisp handling with minimized roll during spirited driving and a soft, pliant ride for more relaxed moments. DYNAMIC SELECT lets you fine-tune your driving experience further with Individual driving modes you can customize yourself, as well as a quartet of standard driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and OFFROAD. Available only on the EQS 580 4MATIC, OFFROAD mode gives the vehicle an extra inch of ground clearance. The extra height is perfect for navigating steep driveways and unpaved roads. Rear-axle steering also makes it easier to maneuver into tight parking spots, with up to 10 degrees of steering articulation available.
