The Road Ahead: What to Expect from Chevrolet in 2019

As a leader in innovation, technology, and performance, we expect big things from Chevrolet in 2019. From new models to exciting motorsports, Chevrolet is already poised to outdo itself this year. Here are a few of the biggest changes and events coming in 2019.

The All-New Silverado

Chevy unveiled the latest generation of Silverado for the 2019 model year, and as you would expect, they pulled out all the stops with multiple powertrain options and class-leading features. Chevy engineers redesigned the entire Silverado lineup, from the base model all the way up to the massive 6500HD, and here are just a few things you have to look forward to:

For more than 100 years, Chevrolet has developed a reputation for building trucks that offer incredible performance, capability and value. The next-gen Silverado continues that tradition—offering more interior and cargo room, higher towing and payload capabilities and a lower starting at MSRP on our highest volume model.

- Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet

The Silverado 1500 will come available in eight trim levels and six powertrain options, including some that are just as focused on efficiency as others are on strength and some that can handle both. Over half of the options will come standard with updated versions of the brand’s 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s. These advanced and proven powertrains utilize the brand’s cutting-edge Dynamic Fuel Management technology, which offers 17 different modes of cylinder deactivation to deliver optimal fuel efficiency while never sacrificing performance. In addition, buyers can choose the 2.7-liter Turbo engine—which guarantees 22 percent more torque, greater fuel efficiency, and a stronger power-to-weight ratio than the previous generation—as well as an all-new Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel.

As for functionality, the 2019 Silverado is larger than the previous generation in almost every dimension. The crew cab, short box variant gets inches added in directions: width, length, and height, as well as 3.9 inches added to the wheelbase. Plus, all configurations get an extra 3 inches of cab lengths and up to 4 additional cubic feet of interior volume. On the outside, the 2019 Silverado’s bed offers more cargo volume than any other full-size truck in either the short-, standard-, or long-bed models.

The bed is the heart and soul of any pickup, so we made several improvements to the bed of the all-new Silverado to give our customers an even better hauling experience. We’ve added so many features and benefits that it deserves its own name – Durabed.

- Tim Herrick, executive chief engineer, Full-Size Trucks, General Motors

The Blazer is Back

For the 2019 model year, Chevrolet re-introduces the legendary Blazer back into the wild. The new generation of Blazer will stand up to the high demands of the modern driver, while still offering the renegade looks of previous generations. With a bold silhouette and wider stance, the diverse trim range will offer multiple variants to make everyone happy. This two-row midsize SUV crashes the crossover party and returns Chevrolet to the head of the pack.

The 2019 Chevy Blazer will offer two powertrains: a 2.5-liter efficiency focused inline-four and a 3.6-liter V6 that’s all about the power. It will also come standard with modern amenities, including high-tech connectivity through a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and confidence-boosting handling through the exclusive Traction Mode Select feature. Available upgrades will include the unstoppable advanced twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system and a suite of state-of-the-art automotive safety features.

Back on the Track

The year is already shaping up to be an exciting one for Chevy motorsports. In February, two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt, Jr will lead the pack of the Daytona 500 in a 2019 Silverado Pace Truck (pictured below). In its 61st running, this will mark the first time that The Great American Race will be paced by a pickup truck, and what better choice than the all-new Silverado?

Powered by the 6.2-liter V8, the 2019 Silverado Pace Truck will put out 420 horses and 460 lb-ft of torque.
In the world of Indy, a Chevy engine will be the driving power under two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso’s entry in the 2019 Indianapolis 500 in May. The Chevy-built 2.2-liter V6 engine has powered Indy winners in the past, capturing victories in 73 of 118 total races, including the IndyCar Manufacturer Championship six times and the series’ driver and owner championships five times.

Chevrolet will also compete with an all-electric version of the 2019 COPO Camaro this year. The eCOPO Camaro Concept (pictured top and below) was developed with the pioneering electric drag racing team Hancock and Lane Racing. It’s will be driven by an electric motor providing the equivalent of more than 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, and it’s predicted to demolish a quarter-mile in the 9-second range.

…And This is Just the Beginning
