2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited

New for 2016

The Chevrolet Cruze returns for the 2016 model year with a new name and the same great quality and efficiency that’s made it such a popular choice among compact sedans. The diesel engine has been deleted for the 2016 model year.

The Smart Choice

Those of you looking for a compact sedan that is big on ride comfort would do well to explore the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited. Chevrolet’s popular sedan returns with sharp styling, a solid roster of features, and impressive fuel economy—all at modest price point. If you’re searching for a sedan with more substance than flash, the 2016 Cruze Limited may just be the sedan you’re destined to own.

Powertrains and Performance

We hope you don’t mind less frequent trips to the gas station because efficiency truly is the name of the game when driving the 2016 Cruze Limited.

All Cruze Limited models are front-wheel drive, with your choice of standard six-speed automatic transmission or six-speed automatic (depending on trim).

The first engine choice is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque.  For this setup, the 1.8-liter engine earns an EPA-estimated 27 mpg combined (22 city/35 highway) when equipped with the available six-speed automatic.*

For a little more pep in your step, the Cruze Limited can be had with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generate 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. This setup boosts fuel economy even further, earning an EPA-estimated 33 mpg combined (28 city/42 highway) with the six-speed manual.* The 1.4-liter engine’s fuel economy drops to 31 mpg combined (26 city/39 highway) when equipped with the available automatic, which is a negligible difference if you want to relinquish shifting duties.

Features and Trims

With five different trim levels (L, LS, LT, Eco, and LTZ) you can rest easy knowing there is a Chevrolet Cruze Limited that meets your needs.

Pricing for the 2016 Cruze Limited starts at $16,120.* Standard equipment highlights for Cruze Limited L and LS models include 16-inch steel wheels, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, air-conditioning, and Bluetooth® phone connectivity. Tech features include OnStar with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot capability and a six-speaker sound system—complete with CD player, USB port, and auxiliary audio jack.

Stepping up to higher trims levels adds various standard equipment and opens up models to various options and packages. For example, 1LT models get the upgraded 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, body-color mirrors, and chrome brightwork.

If you really want to customize your Cruze Limited, we recommend taking a look at a number of the available packages. For tech enthusiasts, the aptly named Technology package adds a rearview camera, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, a seven-inch touchscreen, and much more.

If Safety is your thing, the Enhanced Safety package is available for all trims with the exception of L and LS models. This package includes convenience and safety features like rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Design

With strong, angled lines and confident stance, the 2016 Cruze Limited takes the smart approach to design. It’s not overwrought with superfluous styling touches, instead, the Cruze Limited takes the winning formula of the Impala and Malibu lines and shrinks it down ever so slightly.

What we’re left with is a good looking compact sedan that is destined to stand the test of time. You’ll like the way it looks today and the way it looks three years from now. Not many vehicles can pull that off but the Cruze Limited does so with aplomb.

Step inside and it’s more of the same, which means more of the same great design touches. Material quality is high, especially for its price range, and the controls are all straightforward and easy to reach.

Seat comfort is where the Cruze Limited really shines, though. Front legroom is excellent, while the rear bench seat is more than enough for two full-size adults. In fact, for a vehicle its size, the 2016 Cruze Limited is rather roomy. It’s classified as a compact sedan but based on its interior dimensions qualifies as a midsize sedan according to the EPA’s rating system. Talk about getting some serious bang for your buck!

Safety

Just because the 2016 Cruze Limited features an attractive price doesn’t mean Chevrolet skipped out when it comes to safety. All models come with a robust list of standard safety features including stability control, antilock brakes, front-disc/rear-drum brakes with the exception of 2LT and LTZ models, which are upgraded to four-wheel disc brakes. Full-length side curtain airbags, front knee airbags and front and rear side-impact airbags are also standard.

As with other Chevrolet models, OnStar comes standard on the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited. This welcome suite of features includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, and stolen-vehicle assistance.

Finally, for even more safety, all Cruze Limited models with the exception of L and LS trims are available with blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert system.

Bottom Line

With its excellent fuel economy, comprehensive trim levels and options, and excellent value, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited manages to tick a lot of boxes and then some, especially when compared to its compact sedan rivals. Toss in a roomy interior that goes beyond expectation (and segment classification for that matter) and you’ve got a segment-leading sedan that is sure to please for miles on end.
