2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

New for 2016

The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes standard with a new eight-inch touchscreen interface. It also has new safety features, an updated OnStar® system that includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Chevrolet MyLink system that uses Apple CarPlay®. Buyers can choose to reconfigure the instrument panel and add a heads-up display.

Building on a Tradition of Success

The Chevrolet Tahoe has been a popular SUV since its introduction in 1995. The 2016 Tahoe builds on that tradition by keeping the features that make it a good choice for families, as well as workers who need plenty of power under the hood. By combining the elements that have made the Tahoe a successful SUV with new features that help it stay current with today's expectations for safety and entertainment, the 2016 Tahoe is a vehicle that continues to attract buyers who want excellent value for their money.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2016 Tahoe comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that offers an impressive 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. When pushed to its limit, this crossover SUV can go from zero to 60 mph in just over seven seconds. That's faster than most vehicles in its class, although there are a couple options that are slightly quicker.

Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. With the two-wheel drive option, drivers can expect the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe to haul up to 8,600 pounds while the four-wheel version can tow up to 8,400 pounds. That makes the 2016 Tahoe a good SUV for drivers who need to haul heavy loads.

It is an especially good option for people who want a comfortable vehicle with plenty of luxury features but still need an SUV that can handle difficult work on and off work sites. A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard at all trim levels.

Compared to most full-sized vehicles, the Tahoe has impressive fuel-efficiency that makes it a good choice for drivers who want to spend less money on gasoline and make fewer stops at fueling stations. The EPA estimates* that the two-wheel drive 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe gets about 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The four-wheel drive version also gets 16 mpg in the city, but efficiency on the highway falls to 22 mpg, an amount that most drivers will never notice.

Features and Trims

Chevrolet offers three trim levels of the 2016 Tahoe, but even the entry-level LS comes loaded with features buyers won't find on many SUVs in this price range (MSRP is $47,000**). Some standout items on the LS include safety features like an integrated driver-blind-spot mirror, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera. Other noteworthy features include tri-zone automatic climate control, remote ignition, cruise control and a six-speaker stereo system loaded with a CD player, five USB ports, satellite radio and a media player interface.

The LT trim level adds a few upgrades to the LS, including an Enhanced Driver Alert package that boasts Lane Keep Assist, power-adjustable pedals, Forward Collision Alert, InteliBeam lights and a Safety Alert Seat that vibrates to notify the driver of danger. Buyers who choose the LT trim level also get leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats and a stereo that comes with nine surround-sound speakers.

While the LS and LT trim levels are quite nice, the LTZ takes it to a whole other level with a 10-speaker audio system, ventilated front seats, xenon headlights, a magnetic adaptive suspension system and 20-inch alloy wheels. When it comes to a luxury experience, it's tough to beat the LTZ.

Design

Chevrolet's designers have retained many of the exterior features that have helped make the Tahoe an attractive SUV. The 2016 version still has an aggressively styled grille emblazoned with the classic Chevy logo. The exterior measurements prove that this is a large vehicle that can withstand practically any driving environment.

All trim levels are 17 feet long, 6 feet 8.5 inches wide, and 6 feet 2.4 inches tall. The LS and LT versions have a ground clearance of 7.9 inches. The LTZ offers a little more clearance because of its larger wheels.

The interior gives buyers a few options to match their unique needs. The standard seating arrangement provides enough room for eight people, but buyers can add an extra seat with a 40/20/40-split front bench. No matter what arrangement buyers choose, they get a third row of seats that folds into the floor, providing plenty of room for hauling passengers around town while also making it easy to create extra storage space when needed.

Drivers will appreciate the newly configured instrument cluster that makes it easier to maintain control of the SUV and media system without taking their eyes off the road.

Safety

The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes with a wide range of safety features, including standards like traction control, stability control and antilock disc brakes. The OnStar system offers automatic crash alerts and stolen-vehicle assistance. Upper trim levels come with front parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure notification.

Bottom Line

The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe offers the features that matter most to today's SUV drivers. Even at the entry-level, it comes with plenty of luxury and safety features that make it a great vehicle for families. Buyers who are more interested in getting difficult work done will also appreciate the comfort and excellent entertainment options, as well as the Tahoe's ability to haul heavy loads without problem.
