The available 10.1-inch display is vertically oriented, giving users a more tablet-like experience.

Real World Performance

The 2024 Ford Explorer comes standard with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder engine. Rated at 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, the turbocharged mill eagerly gets the Explorer off the line as needed. It’s also the smart choice if achieving maximum fuel economy is on your list of “must-dos.” If more oomph is what you’re looking for, then look no further than the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. Standard in the ST, King Ranch and Platinum trims, the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 puts its twin turbochargers to good use, pumping out a substantial 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Both engines share the same 10-speed automatic transmission with available steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Slick roads and muddy trails aren’t a problem for the available Intelligent 4WD system. Terrain Management System delivers extra peace of mind by offering up to seven drive modes, including a 4WD-only mode for deep snow and sand. When properly equipped, the 2024 Explorer easily tows up to 5,600 pounds. Standard Trailer Sway Control uses selective brake input and engine power management to keep things under control. All Explorers also come with Side-Wind Stabilization, a welcome feature for dealing with inconvenient cross winds under gusty driving conditions.
