2015 Ford Mustang

New for 2015

The Ford Mustang has been reimagined and redesigned for the 2015 model year.

The Legend Continues

We can’t think of any other car in the world that is more synonymous with power, freedom, and the American dream than the Ford Mustang. Since its debut in 1964, the Mustang has gone on to become one of Ford’s most successful models. It created a segment and defined an era where muscle and motor oil reigned supreme and fuel-efficiency was merely an afterthought.

Flash-forward to present day and the Mustang is still galloping down roads with confidence and swagger. With each passing generation, the Mustang gathers new fans who flock to the nameplate’s promise of fun and adventure. In celebration of the Mustang’s 50 year anniversary, Ford has redesigned the 2015 model from the ground up. Now in its sixth-generation, the Mustang adds a new fuel-efficient mill to its vociferous V-engines, while sporting a bold new look.

Here’s to 50 more years.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2015 Mustang can be had with a number of different engine options. A 3.7-liter V6 is standard on the base Mustang and generates 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. For 2015, a new turbocharged EcoBoost 2.3-liter four-cylinder is available. Power output for the EcoBoost is pegged at 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Finally, GT models boast a 5.0-liter V8 that creates 420 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

As for transmission options, any engine can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic complete with paddle shifters. At the moment, no official fuel economy numbers are available but Ford says its new four-cylinder EcoBoost is capable of getting over 30 mpg on the highway.

The Mustang has always been a strong performer, especially when considering its attractive price point, and the 2015 model looks to carry on that tradition. In addition to the new four-banger, the Mustang boasts a new rear suspension that improves handling and overall ride quality.

Features and Trims

The 2015 Ford Mustang starts at $23,600.* It can be had as either a two-door coupe or convertible and seats four. It’s offered in six trim levels: V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and GT 50 Years Limited Edition.

V6 models come handsomely equipped and sport 17-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, a limited-slip rear differential, keyless ignition and entry, and full power accessories. Other highlights include a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rearview camera, and Ford’s voice-control-powered SYNC system, complete with 4.2-inch multifunction display and a six-speaker sound system.

Moving up the lineup, the EcoBoost includes all the V6’s standard features but replaces the engine with a turbocharged four-cylinder. Standard features include a rear spoiler, six-way power front seats, aluminum dash trim, and track app system that provides performance data such as 0-60 mph, quarter-mile timers, and more.

The Mustang GT includes all the features of the EcoBoost but adds a potent V8 under the hood. Also standard are 18-inch wheels,  chrome exhaust tips, launch control (manual transmission), and upgraded brakes and hood vents.

Finally, the Mustang GT 50 Years Limited Edition model includes a wealth of premium features that include exclusive paint colors, unique 19-inch wheels, unique chrome exterior, and unique upholstery. Also worth mentioning is the trim’s 12-speaker sound system, navigation, and special “50 Years” detailing.

Of course, each trim has access to various options such as the MyFord Touch interface and other premium upgrades.

Exterior/Interior

While we may all carry some notion as to what the Mustang should look like, Ford’s designers have the unenviable task of putting pen to paper and actually creating one. Thankfully, the 2015 Mustang is a real gem. It’s instantly recognizable but manages to incorporate modern design elements that mix seamlessly with the car’s retro vibe.

The most notable change to the Mustang’s look are the new headlights, which rap around into the front fenders. Up front, the fascia retains the gaping maw /trapezoidal grill of its forbearers, while the long and distinct hood gives the 2015 Stang a truly imposing look.

Adding to the visual flair is a steeply raked profile that dovetails beautifully into the Mustang’s rear portions. Once again, Ford has turned to classic designs as inspiration for the rear end, which sports three-bar taillights and chiseled bodywork.

Inside, the Mustang is thoroughly modern while paying homage to the car’s storied  past. Here, drivers are treated to large, intuitive instrumentation, a retro-inspired three-spoke steering wheel, and circular air vents that lend an additional sporty character. Material quality is another high note and goes a long way in defining the modern Mustang experience.

Safety

The 2015 Mustang’s sensational performance is matched by an unwavering dedication to safety. Standard features include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (coupe models only), a driver’s knee airbag and a rearview camera.

The Mustang also features Ford’s MyKey system, which lets owners limit speed and audio levels for young drivers. Optional safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alter systems.

Bottom Line

Powerful, poised, and with a 50-year pedigree to back it up, the 2015 Ford Mustang is the consummate sports car. It features a bold new look and improves upon the tried and tested Mustang formula with a new fuel-efficient EcoBoost engine and modern rear suspension. Factor in an incredibly low MSRP and an enhanced level of refinement, and its clear the latest pony to come galloping out of Ford’s stable is bred for success.
