Mercedes-Benz Unveils a New Era of the G-Class

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an undeniable icon. It's instantly recognizable with an air of absolute luxury and rugged capability. It has also remained largely unchanged, but that's not the case for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class. This rugged icon is getting a whole new soul for the upcoming model year and shedding one of its most defining characteristics as a gas-guzzler.

It's no secret that the current G-Class requires more fuel to power the formidable engine under the hood. However, next year Mercedes-Benz will replace that powerplant with an all-electric powertrain for its most recognizable SUV. For those who aren't sold on the all-electric option, there will be a few hybrid models, the G 550 and the Mercedes-AMG G 63.

The EQ technology that has been implemented in many other successful EV models from Mercedes-Benz will be found in the new G 580. When crafting the all-electric G 580, engineers knew that they must preserve the personality and power of the model's history and maintain its off-road prowess. With the new G 580, you'll be able to traverse slopes, boulders, mud, sand, and water with the same ease as before. All-wheel drive will be standard, of course, and the four electric motors that power the G 580 will produce up to 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque. With an EPA-estimated range of up to 240 miles, the new all-electric G-Class can go the distance.

Engineers ensured that this new G-Wagon would be able to withstand plenty of abuse by enclosing the battery with a torsion-resistant, waterproof casing allowing it to wade through up to 33.5 inches of water. It also features a thick carbon-composite skid plate to protect the battery and other vital components.

The next era of G-Class will be arriving soon. To learn more about this revolutionary new model or dive into another amazing EV from Mercedes-Benz, contact the Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis team today.
