A quick peek under the 2024 Subaru Legacy’s hood reveals one of two available powertrain options. Base, Premium, and Limited trims come equipped with the marque’s 2.5-liter BOXER 4-cylinder engine. Designed with efficiency in mind, this engine offers an ample 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. A combination of direct injection and Subaru’s Dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS) help make this engine exceptionally efficient without sacrificing its performance potential. Moving up to the Sport and Touring XT trims opens up the option for turbocharged power. The 2.4-liter turbocharged BOXER 4-cylinder engine offers a considerable performance upgrade, giving drivers 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque to work with. You also won’t suffer a fuel mileage penalty as with other turbocharged cars, as equipped Legacies achieve up to an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. No matter which engine you choose, power flows through the Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission.

As with all Subaru models, the 2024 Legacy comes equipped with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This unique system keeps the engine and the rest of the drivetrain mounted symmetrically instead of being offset like in other vehicles.
