The Road Ahead: What to Expect from Mercedes-Benz in 2019

As a leader in innovation, technology, and performance, we expect big things from Mercedes-Benz in 2019. From ground-breaking new models to game-changing innovations, Mercedes-Benz is already poised to outdo itself this year. Here are a few of the biggest headlines coming in 2019.

AMG Lineup Continues to Impress

The Mercedes-AMG lineup has never stopped offering unparalleled performance and luxury, and this year will continue to offer new peerless products. The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe (pictured top) will be one of the most amazing vehicles on the road. Using a handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, the four-door coupe will deliver an astonishing 630 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain will be mated to an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ variable All-Wheel Drive system with a standard drift mode and the innovative AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-Speed transmission. The automaker claims this masterpiece of engineering will launch from 0 to 60 mpg in just 3.1 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 195 mph.

If you’re looking for unstoppable all-terrain luxury, Mercedes-AMG will also offer a new generation of the infamous G63 SUV (pictured above). This iconic high-performance off-road vehicle will use the same AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine as it’s low-riding cousin above, but its rugged design and drivetrain will mean drivers can take world-class luxury on any terrain, paved or not. The G63 will feature an AMG Ride Control sports suspension and the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes, offering five on-road and three off-road drive modes to choose from. Drivers can effortlessly switch drive modes for a number of road conditions, resulting in modified characteristics throughout the powertrain, instantly suiting this SUV to handle whatever the world can throw at it.

On the inside, both of these models will offer the height of luxury as only the Mercedes-AMG line can, featuring 21st-century technologies like COMAND® Navigation, 12.3-inch central display, and 64-color ambient lighting. Look for both of these works of modern art to hit showrooms throughout the year.

EQ Stands for "Electric Intelligence"

Mercedes-Benz will expand its newest brand of futuristic models under the new EQ moniker. Combining the brand’s values of “Emotion” and “Intelligence,” two elements that have always been central to the design and engineering of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the EQ brand will feature a family of all-electric and semi-autonomous vehicles for every segment, starting with the new EQC, a battery-powered SUV (pictured above).

The new EQC is a genuine Mercedes-Benz. This particularly applies to classic attributes such as quality, safety and comfort. These are accompanied by dynamic performance, thanks to two electric motors at the front and rear axles with a combined output of 300 kW, and an intelligent operating strategy for a superior electric range. The EQC is part of a growing family of purely electrically powered vehicles from Mercedes-Benz.

- Ola Källenius, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development

The EQC will draw power from two asynchronous motors and all-wheel drive, delivering 402 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of instant torque, so drivers will never need to fear any off-road challenges in this SUV. Plus, the EQC’s 80 kWh lithium-ion battery will deliver an estimated driving range of 279 miles without using a drop of gasoline. As for smarts, the EQC will offer the latest technology in driving assistance, such as Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist features, as well as next-generation infotainment options with the cutting-edge Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system.

A second addition to the EQ lineup will answer the more compact needs of city drivers. The smart EQ fortwo coupe (pictured below) and cabrio will offer all-electric versions of the popular smart city cars that have already created a cult-like following in urban centers around the world. The diminutive two-seater is the perfect solution for tight city streets, and with the all-electric version, urban dwellers can say goodbye to high gas prices and carbon footprints.

Meet The New A-Class

Mercedes-Benz will disrupt the compact sedan segment this year with the introduction of the all-new A-Class Sedan.

Following the successful start of the A-Class, things at Mercedes-Benz are happening in quick succession with regard to the new family of compacts. In response to the wish of many customers, we now offer the A-Class for the first time as a sedan. Anyone looking for a compact, sporty sedan with a separate trunk now has a new, attractive alternative. It will attract new customers for Mercedes-Benz.

- Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales

Almost twenty years ago, the first A-Class established the compact segment for Mercedes-Benz, and more than six million models later, the new A-Class Sedan makes a logical addition to the lineup of world-class sedans. With the new A-Class, Mercedes-Benz engineers focused everything on breaking new ground, entering a new segment with the latest technology; this model is all about taking you places you’ve never been before:

Mercedes-AMG Project ONE

Finally, the near future holds something very exciting for those with fuel in their veins. The automaker plans to bring the world of Formula 1 performance to civilians on the road. The Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar (pictured below) will offer street-legal high-speed hybrid technology in one sleek package. After over a year of track testing, we’re finally getting our first glimpse of this one-of-a-kind invention. The Mercedes-AMG ONE will use a plug-in hybrid drive system and offer features on the leading edge of performance, such as active aerodynamics which use a multi-part, two-stage extendable rear wing for maximum downforce in race mode.

The hypercar is the most ambitious project we have ever undertaken. It marks yet another pinnacle of the successful, strategic development of Mercedes-AMG towards a performance and sports car brand. Project ONE raises the bar in terms of what is currently technologically feasible and thanks to its combination of efficiency and performance it represents an absolute benchmark. At the same time, Project ONE provides an outlook on how AMG will define driving performance in the future.

- Tobias Moers explains as the Head of Management at Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
