2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon to Debut in April

Promises to outperform popular Hellcat models

A new chapter is about to begin in the Dodge performance legacy. The automaker is resurrecting the Demon, originally a 2-door fastback hardtop version of the early-70s Dart, for the new Challenger SRT Demon, which will make its global debut in April at the New York International Auto Show.

“It’s [the] next Hellcat,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of Fiat Chrysler’s passenger car brands for North America in an interview with The Detroit News. “It’s part of our heritage and it’s a great name.”

Hall Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Virginia Beach has more details on it for you here.

In good company

The Challenger SRT Demon will be sold alongside the Hellcat SRT Challenger and Charger models beginning with the 2018 model year. The Hellcat models, the halo cars of Dodge’s muscle car lineup since 2014, are powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 engine that produces 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The new Challenger SRT Demon is expected to outperform that. While the details of the Challenger Hellcat SRT are being unveiled slowly, Dodge promises that muscle car fanatics will know everything about the engine, performance, and pricing by the time the Demon is revealed. Videos are being introduced weekly leading up to the New York Auto Show.

Wide Stance

What we know so far is that the new Demon will have a wide-body design with pronounced fender flares for a wider stance than the rest of the Challenger lineup. The overall width is up 3.5 inches. More than just for looks, this wider stance is the result of modifications to the steering, suspension, and wheels.

Racing Tires

The custom wheels measure 18 x 11 inches and feature a distinctive demon tail design in the rim, while the custom Nitto tires are a massive 315/40 at all four corners. These Nitto NT05R tires are drag radials, making the Demon the first production car to be fitted as standard with drag strip tires. According to Nitto, the tires’ specialized race compound and large contact patch are designed for optimal traction and even pressure distribution. Look for the Demon logo on the sidewalls.
