2016 Jeep® Cherokee

New for 2016

The 2016 Jeep® Cherokee is far from the boxy Jeeps of the past. This updated version has all the off-road capability of the original 1986 model with a more modern and sleek look.

Tackle the Outdoors in Comfort

Go off road in style with the new 2016 Jeep® Cherokee. This revamped version of a brand staple leaves its nearest competition in the dust as it navigates terrain from light off-roading to rock crawling through passes. Rugged is the only way to describe this SUV's performance.

Powertrain and Performance

Powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, the Cherokee combines fuel economy with performance, giving drivers a range of approximately 500 miles per tank. With estimated 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway,* this SUV is economical to drive.

Unlike many other comparable vehicles, the Jeep® Cherokee comes with a V6 option, giving added horsepower and torque to a vehicle that is comfortable on and off the road. The 3.2-liter V6 engine delivers a whopping 271 hp compared to the 184 hp available with the four-cylinder version.

The 9-speed automatic transmission designed by ZF specifically for the Cherokee improves fuel economy and performance, so the V6 model outperforms some of its four-cylinder competition.

What really sets the Cherokee apart is the addition of the Selec-Terrain® system. Combining 12 different car systems, this traction control system helps the Cherokee navigate even the most touch-and-go surfaces. Manually control traction settings for snow, sport, sand/mud and rock, or select auto and let the Selec-Terrain® system take over.

All versions of the Cherokee come with standard options that set it apart, including Hill Assist, front and rear independent suspensions, electronic stability control and electric power steering. Upgraded options add on 4-wheel drive for a true off-road experience, skid plates and an increased ride height.

Features and Trims

Starting at an affordable $23,395,** the base Cherokee is a crossover SUV that emphasizes luxury on the interior and performance on the exterior. Don't just off-road, off-road in comfort and style with this latest model Cherokee.

It comes standard with the Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen media center prominently placed on the dash. The media center also includes Bluetooth® connectivity, SD, USB and auxiliary ports, so mobile devices plug and play, even in the car.

A 3.5-inch full-color display, cruise control, dual-zone air conditioning, remote keyless entry and the Jeep® Cargo Management System come with every Cherokee on the lot.

Optional upgrades include features like a larger Uconnect screen at 8.4 inches, Alpine® premium audio packages and a sunroof with power sunshade -- and that's only the beginning!

The Cherokee comes in the Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk® editions, each with an emphasis on a different style of driving. The Trailhawk® is the choice for the most rugged terrain, combining the Trail Rated® Jeep Active Drive Lock 4x4 system with a host of other options that make roughing it a lot less rough.

Design

The 2016 Jeep® Cherokee bears no resemblance to the boxes of the past, with a mid-size body that is surprisingly roomy on the inside.

The new Cherokee looks more like a car and a lot less like a Jeep, but there are plenty of details that remind drivers of the brand identity. The newly designed grill still features the 7-slot grille but now with an updated look as it kinks over the hood.

The cabin is roomy enough for five adults, while the intuitive layout of the center console makes controlling climate and entertainment options a breeze.

Options like the customizable instrument panel display the information most needed. On top of the center console is a unique covered storage bin that is perfect for mobile electronics. The Uconnect screen controls the radio and navigation, offering a truly hands-free driving experience.

The 2016 Jeep® Cherokee offers a solid addition to the SUV crossover lineup with real off-road capability and a host of comfort options for travel in town.

Safety

With a complete line up of safety features that start with standards like anti-lock brakes and six airbags, every Jeep® Cherokee comes with up to 60 different safety features and options. Add on features like park assist and a rear view camera with premium packages, or stick to the basics with electronic stability control offered on the base model.

Bottom Line

The 2016 Jeep® Cherokee is a nice addition to the lineup of crossover SUVs with more off-road potential than competitors like the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4.
