2024 Kia Niro

Overview

It’s not often that you see a small crossover, let alone a hybrid crossover, turn heads like the 2024 Kia Niro. With its compact yet spacious design, styling that seems to come straight from the future, and notoriously good fuel economy, the Niro aims to please savvy hybrid shoppers including those who aren’t quite ready to jump head-first into electric car ownership. Five trims dominate the Niro lineup with the EX Touring and SX offering the most compelling of standard and optional features, including ventilated front seats, LED fog lights, and alloy sport pedals.

Who’s It For?

Drivers with a keen eye towards efficiency but without sacrificing any of the useful features of your typical crossover. Head out on the open road and be amazed at the Niro’s rather impressive 53 mpg combined, when properly equipped. The plug-in hybrid version does even better with an overall 108 MPGe combined, not to mention the 33 miles worth of driving range you’ll get solely on electric power, courtesy of a larger 11.1-kilowatt-hour battery and the ability to top off a charge. And speaking of topping off, the available Webasto Go portable charger lets you do just that whether you’re at home or out and about. On the convenience front, a dual-level cargo floor lets you make the most of the Niro’s 63.7 cubic feet of cargo area. The 60/40 split seats also fold flat for more cargo-carrying flexibility. Meanwhile, the 2024 Niro also features the available Digital Key, giving you another way to unlock, lock, and even stop the Niro from the convenience of your smartphone.

Real World Performance

Pop open the hood of the 2024 Kia Niro and you’ll find a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder combined with the latest in hybrid drivetrain technology. The result is a combined 139 horsepower and a sizable 195 pound-feet of torque. Power and torque flow towards the front wheels via a snappy 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. If you want more oomph, the Niro Plug-in Hybrid delivers a beefed-up version of the regular drivetrain. You’ll get the same amount of torque as the normal Niro hybrid, with combined grunt that goes up to an impressive 180 horsepower. This combination also uses the same 6-speed transmission as the standard Niro.

An available Sport Mode helps the already-sprightly Kia Niro feel even more nimble and ready to pounce on winding roads. Optional 18-inch alloy wheels not only enhance the sporty flair but also allow for larger tires with more bite.
