What’s New for 2024?

A new model joins the X1 family for 2024. The X1 M35i brings M performance and styling to the table. Not only does that mean more aggressive styling all around with larger standard and optional wheels, but you’ll also get the full M-branded treatment inside. The M35i also features a brawnier engine along with performance brakes and a performance-minded adaptive suspension setup. 2024 also marks the debut of BMW’s iDrive 9 infotainment software, complete with a host of improvements to help ease menu navigation.

The X1’s compact size makes it a shoo-in for those seeking an experience that’s more akin to the 3 Series but with the benefit of extra ground clearance and a more commanding view of traffic. The interior also follows the modern BMW styling aesthetic with an all-digital dashboard and floating center console as design hallmarks. Controls readily fall into hand with the now classic iDrive controller at the ready for easier and safer navigation. The included QuickSelect functionality lets you directly access a broad array of infotainment and navigation features by touch instead of using the iDrive wheel.

Real World Performance

The standard X1 xDrive28i comes equipped with BMW’s 2.0-liter TwinPower 4-cylinder engine. The twin-scroll turbocharged mill generates a sprightly 241 horsepower along with a surprising 295 pound-feet of torque. The torquey nature of the TwinPower engine goes a long way toward making interstate on-ramp merges and highway passes feel as effortless as possible. It also helps that the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is as quick and seamless as you’d expect from a driving-focused machine.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more of an edge, the X1 M35i is where you’ll find it. This performance-oriented model comes complete with a heavily massaged version of the 2.0-liter TwinPower mill. With 313 horsepower on tap, the M35i hustles to 60 mph in an impressive 5.2 seconds. The M35i also features Adaptive M Suspension and M Sport Differential, both designed to provide sharper handling and power delivery under a wide range of road and terrain conditions.
