Drive & Handling
The 2018 Clarity uses an Atkinson-cycle 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine in combination with its AC permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor to produce total system output of 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough power and instant torque to accelerate the Clarity from 0 to 60 in 7.6 seconds, roughly comparable to a performance car.
Recharging the Clarity is easy with multiple recharge methods. You can plug it in with a charger using a standard 120V outlet and let it charge overnight while you sleep (connecting to a 240V outlet makes for faster charge times). Also, many communities and workplaces across the US now offer free charging stations. You can also switch the Clarity to “HV Mode,” which uses the gas engine to charge the car’s battery while you drive. In addition, the Clarity uses regenerative braking to constantly recharge the battery with energy from braking that would have been wasted anyway.

Not only is the Clarity state-of-the-art under the hood, but passengers inside are also protected by a suite of cutting-edge safety features as part of Honda Sensing®. These features include forward collision and lane departure warnings, which alert the driver with audio and visual warnings, and collision mitigation braking and road departure mitigation systems, which can actively take control of the vehicle to prevent accidents before the driver even has time to think. Combine that with multiple cameras and passive safety features, like airbags throughout the cabin, and you can drive easy knowing you and your most precious cargo are protected.
Multiple Drive Modes
With the drive mode selector, you can modify the Clarity’s performance to suit different conditions with the click of a button. The selector offers three different drive modes: Normal, ECON, and Sport. These modes alter vehicle characteristics, such as traction and torque, to produce different results like better fuel efficiency or faster acceleration times.
Stay Connected with HondaLink®
The free HondaLink® app can be downloaded to any smartphone and synced to the Clarity to allow vehicle monitoring and remote controls. With the app, drivers can view estimated driving range and battery charge status from anywhere. Plus, the app can be used to remotely set cabin temperature using the available Climate Pre-Conditioning feature, so warming up or cooling down your Clarity can be done before you even open the door.
