2018 Porsche 718 Boxster

SCHEDULE TEST DRIVE

Overview

The Porsche Boxster debuted 20 years ago as a throwback to the simple, mid-engined roadsters built by the automaker in its early days. Now, Porsche is moving the Boxster into the future by looking back. The 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster borrows its name from the classic 718 models of the 1950s and early 1960s, and like those models, it’s small and agile. With its turbocharged four-cylinder engine and exciting features like adaptive suspension, the 718 Boxster is a classic with a modern twist.

The 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster is a two-door, two-seat soft-top convertible that is available in a base or S trim level. Its starting price is $57,400.*

The Perfect Ride for…

Anyone looking for a sleek, speedy vehicle that packs plenty of power inside a relatively compact body. The 718 Boxster is perfect for those who wish to zip along the backroads, feeling the wind in their hair and the sun on their skin. Engineered to provide nimble handling and maximize driver enjoyment, the 718 is any sports car enthusiast's dream come true.

Drive & Handling

The base 718 Boxster gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat four with 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while the 718 Boxster S gets a 2.5-liter flat four with a variable-geometry turbo, one that produces 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while a PDK dual-clutch automated transmission is available as an option.

With the PDK and optional Sport Chrono Package (the fastest configuration available), the 718 Boxster will do 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 170 mph. That’s 0.7 seconds and 8 mph faster than the previous Boxster. The 718 Boxster S will do 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 177 mph, which is 0.5 seconds and 5 mph faster than before.

The Boxster has always been about more than just straight-line performance, however. To keep its reflexes sharp, the automaker endowed the 718 with a completely retuned suspension and tweaked electric power steering that Porsche claims is 10 percent more responsive. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is also available as an option, bringing a lower ride height and adjustability that balances ride comfort and performance.

Key Features

Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System

This system has 12 amplifier channels (that have a combined output of 821 watts) and 12 loudspeakers (including an active subwoofer with a 300-watt class D amplifier). All loudspeakers are perfectly matched to deliver a natural, elegant, and richly textured sound, no matter how high you turn up the volume. The result is a sound performance of the highest quality.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

A high-resolution touchscreen serves as the control center for your infotainment and driving information. Connect your iPhone® or audio device, operate Bluetooth®, and utilize the Porsche Jukebox to play your favorite songs. With a CD/DVD drive, SD card input, USB outlet, and auxiliary input, your options for in-drive entertainment are nearly endless.

Alternative Options

The Porsche Cayman and 911 are great options for drivers looking for a sporty ride. Take the muscular Cayman out for a spin and see if you prefer its wider stance and shorter length, and be sure to note the innovative storage solutions in this smaller model. Those looking for an even speedier ride should consider the Porsche 911. With pleasing performance and a sleek interior, this model is the quintessential vehicle for sailing down any road it encounters.
