Journeys: Heritage of the Northwestern Hawai'ian Islands 

Now – February 26

Did you know that the Hawai'ian island chain extends one thousand miles northwest of Kaua’i? This exhibit at Bishop Museum highlights the Northwestern Hawai'ian Islands of Papahānaumokuākea and features ki’i from the museum’s ethnology collection, as well as from the Peabody Essex Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Attendees will also learn about the Battle of Midway, a key event that turned the tide of WWII.

Cherry Blossom Festival 

Now – March 18

Cherry Blossom Festival Queen contestants who have been chosen for their commitment to preserving and educating others on Japanese culture and their passion for community programming will be making several public appearances. There will also be live entertainment at each venue, and a Contestant Reception will be held on Saturday, February 18 at Rumours Nightclub. Pacific Islands Arts Festival 

January 21 – January 22, 9 AM – 4 PM

Come out to Kapiolani Park and enjoy the art works from over 75 Hawai’ian artists! At the free event, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own artwork and view demonstrations. There will also be plenty of music and entertainment, and on Sunday, guests of all ages will enjoy the Lion Dancers of Au’s Shaolin Society who will help bring in the Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year 

February 5 – February 6

It’s almost that time to don your finest crimson outfit and hang vibrant red lanterns outside your home. In Oahu, Chinatown is where you’ll find Kung Fu exhibitions, parades, music performances, and plenty of ethnic foods to keep you going. In Maui, head to the Wo Hing Museum on February 3 from 10 AM – 7 PM. And if you’re celebrating on the Big Island, the King’s Shops will be celebrating with a lion dance and fireworks.
