For the first time since 2008, Mazda Master and Master Elite technicians from across the country will compete in the 19th North American Master Technician Competition. The prize? The opportunity to compete in the 2017 Mazda Global Technician Competition at Mazda's headquarters in Hiroshima, Japan.

Five technicians have earned a spot in this year's competition after winning their respective regional events last fall:

  • Jason Keeney (North Carolina)
  • Daniel Gleason (Illinois)
  • Eric Boughton (Colorado)
  • James Lorson (Maryland)
  • Michael Schurosky (Washington)

"Our goal is to delight our customers. One way we are doing so is by providing top quality technicians at Mazda dealerships,” said Satoshi Takahashi, director of technical services. “Part of our training is to promote excellence and the Mazda Master Technician Competition helps recognize top performers and establishing best practices.”

During the competition, technicians are confronted with challenges based on customer concerns. The technician who resolves the problem most effectively is declared the winner and will go on to represent the United States in the Mazda Global Master Technician Competition - the highest recognition a technician can receive from Mazda.
