Adaptability and Capability
The all-new Cherokee comes available with three engine options that represent the full spectrum of modern Jeep powertrains.
The standard option is the fully-capable 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 engine. After the Fiat-Chrysler alliance a few years ago, the superbly-efficient Tigershark engine family became destined to replace the previous World Gas Engine legacy. Now, this latest generation Tigershark engine powers the latest generation of Cherokee. The MultiAir feature uses variable valve timing (VVT) to efficiently control the air intake directly through the engine’s inlet valves, avoiding wasteful pumping losses. This engine produces 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, and with the FWD model, it gets an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway,** which is pretty good for an SUV.
Jeep also offers the new Cherokee with a turbocharged four-cylinder option. This 2.0-liter turbo engine puts out impressive performance for such a light engine. At 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, the extra power boost will certainly be noticeable.
For the upper tier of power needs, drivers will want the premium Pentastar® option. This 3.2-liter V6 can tow up to 4,500 lbs when properly equipped. It also features fuel-saving Engine Start/Stop technology, which will automatically stop fuel flow to the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, like in slow-moving traffic or at a stop light. It immediately reactivates the engine when the driver lifts their foot off the brake pedal, ready to resume driving.

Adaptable Capability
The 2019 Cherokee features exclusive Jeep Selec-Terrain Traction Management System. This new feature gives the driver the ability to modify driving characteristics with the turn of a selector knob. Drivers can choose from five efficient driving modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and the available Rock mode. When selected, each mode modifies up to 12 different vehicle systems to enhance capability for various conditions. For example, Snow Mode minimizes slippage and oversteer and enhances stability, preventing wheel spin during winter conditions. When conditions change, drivers can easily turn the selector knob to another mode and immediately feel the difference.
Active Drive 4x4 System
Another brand-exclusive technology, the Cherokee is available with up to three levels of the ground-breaking Jeep Active Drive System. The first level features a rear axle disconnect feature that can engage to improve efficiency. The second level adds a low range and Neutral Mode for added capability. The final level further adds the mechanical rear axle lock and the Rock Mode for the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System mentioned above. Together, the Active Drive 4x4 System and the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System make this all-new Cherokee one of the most advanced SUVs on the trails.
Cherokee Connected
The 2019 Cherokee offers the latest-generation of Uconnect®, a suite of systems to keep you and your passengers connected to the 21st century. Not only does Uconnect link you to seemingly endless entertainment sources like satellite radio, streaming music, and podcasts, it also connects you to practical functions, like satellite navigation, roadside assistance, and remote vehicle functions. You’ll enjoy effortlessly operating all of these functions with the standard 7-inch touchscreen or the available 8.4-inch touchscreen. Even more convenient, you can safely control infotainment functions using voice commands, so your hands never have to leave the wheel.
