Drive & Handling
A 3.0-liter V6 biturbo paired with a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed transmission powers the GLS 450 4MATIC, packing 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of net torque. Even with an SUV of this size, the robust machinery under the hood can boost you from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds. When you need to move, the GLS reliably rises to the challenge.
In the next level up, the GLS 550 4MATIC matches the all-wheel drive handling of the 450, and it enhances power with a 4.7-liter V8 twin turbo engine and 449 hp. Take it up one more notch, and the AMG GLS 63 is equipped with a handcrafted 5.5-liter AMG V8 twin turbo and AMG SPEEDSHIFT® PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission; if 577 hp sounds like a perfect fit for you, the AMG model is just your style.
Engaging handling includes DYNAMIC SELECT, which lets the drive choose various modes from easygoing Comfort to a more-aggressive Sport, as well as a specialty mode for slick roads. With a flick of your fingers, the paddle shifters act at your command, making the driving experience custom to your needs.
The 4-wheel AIRMATIC® suspension adapts to changing roads and cargo loads, enhancing driving control and passenger comfort. This SUV’s ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM and off-road package options smooth the corners and protect everyone in your vehicle by reducing rollover risk.
Last, but certainly not least, the GLS sits on stately 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels paired with all-season tires.
Design & Comfort
As soon as you slide into the driver’s seat, you’ll notice all of the comfort features the GLS has to offer. Heated front seats warm up quickly and automatically step down after several minutes to level 1 so you don’t overheat. Three full rows of luxury are augmented by easy-entry second-row seats that also recline. The standard power liftgate and power-folding third row make it a breeze to transport more people or more cargo. And a 60/40 split gives you and your passengers the flexibility to choose the configuration that works best for your needs at that moment in time.
Are you not entertained? Crisp and sharp graphics are on display behind each front head rest to give your second- and third-row passengers a clear view to movies, games, and more. If the kids can’t agree on one movie, they can split their choices between two DVD players, with wireless headsets or the GLS sound system on audio duty. Speaking of audio, you can choose from two systems crafted exclusively for the GLS: one by harman/kardon® and the other from Bang & Olufsen®.

Mercedes-Benz is up to date with the latest driver-assist technology, including ATTENTION ASSIST®, the first system of its kind. ATTENTION ASSIST is your safety guardian when on the road and monitors your driving behavior. If it detects signs of driver fatigue behind the wheel, like a change in steering behaviors and tactical errors based on your normal behaviors, it issues an alert. This groundbreaking system monitors up to 70 driving parameters, measured on the patterns of the drivers themselves.
Mercedes me connect
Mercedes me connect gives you remote access to your GLS with a brand-exclusive mobile app. Remote Start, door locks, and a vehicle locator to mark your parking space make it easy for you to manage your vehicle from afar; vehicle monitoring and stolen vehicle tracking also help you protect your vehicle.
Alternative Options
If it's an SUV you need but you want a more rugged look, the G 500 SUV holds its inconic design for 2019, blending tradition and modernity. The E 450 4MATIC Wagon offers all-wheel drive, heated and massaging seats, and a seven-passenger capacity in a wagon instead of an SUV and could be your perfect fit.
