During this uncertain time, it’s easy to feel powerless, especially when the only action you can take is to stay home and essentially do nothing. However, there are several ways you can keep your spirits high and keep your family healthy at home. The Sears Imported Autos team has a few tips to help fight off the negativity.

Relax

With social media and lots of time on your hands, you might feel pressured to utilize this time to make strides in your career and personal goals. While doing those things will help fill your time, it’s important not to get too caught up in the need to be hyper-productive. If your favorite Instagrammers are getting on top of their home workouts, learning new languages, and reading books, don’t feel pressured to do the same. It’s ok to take time for yourself to adjust to the strange times we’re currently experiencing. Depression and anxiety might be especially elevated right now, so take some time to ease into the changes going on around you.

Get Exercise

Whether it’s just going for a walk around your neighborhood or following along to your favorite workout in your living room, it’s important to break a sweat. Exercise not only keeps your immune system working properly, it also alleviates stress, which we could all use right now. Try YouTube for free HIIT, yoga, and bodyweight strength workouts. If you’re interested in streaming services, Daily Burn and Beachbody® on Demand both offer free trials to test out their services.

Stay Connected

As CDC guidelines and stay-at-home orders are encouraging us to all stay away from others, it’s easy to feel lonely. Thankfully, we have plenty of ways to stay connected to one another virtually. Whether you connect with loved ones through video calling, phone calls, social media, or video gaming, you can still reach out to the people you care about most. Plan to call your family and friends often because chances are, if you’re feeling lonely, they are too.

Try New Hobbies

While we’re all at home, the boredom is probably setting in. However, it’s so important to continue social distancing and staying home when we can. This is a great time to try some new hobbies, finish some projects, and learn new things. If you’ve been dying to paint the bathroom, refinish the deck, or start a garden, now’s a great time. Hardware stores are still open, and these home projects can take up your time and teach you something new. Painting is a great stress reliever and even if you aren’t very good at it, it can help you deal with some of the difficult emotions we’re all facing. There are endless things you could learn like a new language, an instrument, or a new skill could keep your mind active while you’re home. Just remember to avoid going in public and maintain social distancing when you’re gathering supplies to take on these new activities.

Go Outside

Just because you need to stay home, doesn’t mean you can’t go outside. Go for a walk or a run. Getting some exercise outside can really help boost your mood. Doing outdoor projects can help you feel accomplished and just being outside can lift your spirits. Maybe you want to spend some time making your lawn extraordinary this year, or you want to keep your car detailed. Even if you’re just doing chores, going outside is good for your mental and physical health.

There’s no denying that this is a stressful time for everyone. The radical changes in our daily lives coupled with the uncertainty of when this will end, or how life will resume, have us all on edge. It’s important to take care of your mental health as well as your physical health as we go through this as a community. We hope these tips help and we hope you and your family stay safe through this time! The Sears Imported Autos team is here for you.
